Night Operations

Night Operations, the indie/electronic project of Mike Powell began in 2011 with the “Colour & Number” EP and a series of low-key acoustic gigs. After a hiatus, the track “Driving Rain” was released on the German Shepherd Records charity album Salford Streets and later independently as an EP in 2014. Alongside his own material he has remixed for several other artists such as Exchange, KIT B and The Junta. The first full-length album “Mantra” was released through German Shepherd in 2016 and on CD, preceded by debut single “Remember”. Initial response was positive gaining favourable reviews from Mick Middles of Sounds Magazine who gave it 9/10 “retains a freshness that will stand repeated playings” and “it is the case of Night Operations, right now, to marry everyday emotional observation to a musical sense of anxiety-fuelled hope”.

The album prompted airplay from alternative DJ’s across the globe and tracks made appearances in various “best of 2016” shows. Following the albums release, non-album track “No Way Of Knowing” appeared on German Shepherd charity album “Malawi” in October 2016.

In August 2017, an exclusive track “When Night Fell” appeared on the German Shepherd charity album “200”.

After leaving KIT B in late 2017, Mike went back to work on a second album and in early 2018 a new single “Forbidden Fruit” was released with accompanying promo video. This was followed by the second album “Advantage”. The album received generally positive responses including a favourable review from website magazine Get To The Chorus. A very limited CD version of the album was released later that year followed by the “Area 51” EP which featured both an edit and full version of the track, and several remixes of “Forbidden Fruit” from artists such as Screaming Love Collective, Issac Navaro and Auster Boys.

Night Operations returned with “Pull The Trigger” single and promo video in May 2020, heralding a slight change in sound to a darker more experimental direction, which is continued on third album “Protocol” for released on 25th September 2020.

Mike writes, composes and plays all instruments on all tracks recorded.
